Why You Should Change Your Cabin Air Filter

When it comes to your car, if the area is out of sight it is out of mind. One area that demands attention from car owners is the cabin air filter hidden within your glove compartment.

It is important for car owners to replace their cabin air filter frequently because air filters help purify the air that circulates within the car. Have you recently noticed a stale smell perforating throughout your car? Then it could be time for you to take your vehicle to a trusted auto repair and specialty store to ensure that your car is in good hands.

It is best to take small preventative maintenance tasks such as having the oil changed frequently, topping off your fluid levels and replacing the air filters so that you can avoid a high priced car repair further down the road. As a general rule of thumb it is advised that you replace the cabin air filter in your car every year or every 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

In addition to purifying the air in your car the cabin air filter allows your car to maintain the right temperature, making your drive more pleasant. Failure to change the cabin air filter regularly allows dust and debris particles to gather and lodge themselves in the air filter. Over time as the dust particles accumulate a musty and stale odor circulates within your car once you rev up the engine. With a higher amount of dust in your filter, your car will have a higher amount of pollen circulating inside your car which is harmful to people who may be suffering from allergies or asthma.

When it comes to cars different models have different air filter requirements. Some vehicles may only have one air filter with other cars models may require two or more air filters. Cabin air filters are generally placed inside the vehicle under the dash or near the glove compartment. In some cars the air filters are located under the car hood by the firewall. If you are confused where your air filter is at on your car check your owner’s manual where you will be able to find the location.

By taking the steps and carrying out the simple procedures of preventative car maintenance, you will keep your vehicle in optimal condition allowing it to run better while also maintaining resale value.
